KUCHING, Sept 19: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) today issued a warning for possible thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds in 12 districts in Sarawak.
The affected areas are Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu (Selangau), Mukah (Dalat and Mukah), Kapit (Belaga), Bintulu, Miri, and Limbang.
According to the department in its Facebook post this afternoon, a warning is issued when there are signs of a thunderstorm with rain intensity exceeding 20 millimetres per hour expected to occur for more than an hour.
“A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release,” it said.
The warning was also issued for Sabah affecting Pedalaman (Sipitang, Tenom, Beaufort and Tambunan), Pantai Barat (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud), Sandakan (Kinabatangan), and Kudat; as well as in Terengganu involving Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu, Marang, dan Dungun. — DayakDaily
