KUCHING, March 9: One of Semenggoh Wildlife Centre’s resident orangutans Saddamiah has just given birth to her third baby orangutan.
Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) said Saddamiah was spotted on the feeding platform on Tuesday (March 7) with her newborn in tow.
Prior to that, Saddamiah was last seen in the area on Monday (March 6).
“The Controller of Wild Life is pleased to announce that the furry baby orangutan is Saddamiah’s third offspring aside from 10-year-old Ruby and five-year-old Sigat.
“This birth is another milestone and testament of the success of conservation efforts by SFC and the Sarawak government,” said SFC in a social media post today.
Saddamiah’s third baby has not been named as of yet.
Meanwhile, SFC said Semenggoh Wildlife Centre is also home to 27 other semi-wild orangutans other than Saddamiah.
