KUCHING, July 25: The Ministry of Entrepreneurs Development and Cooperatives (MEDAC) assistance received a positive response from entrepreneurs affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO).
According to its Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, through the ministry’s One Stop Entrepreneur Hotline, with the cooperation of 90 other agencies under MEDAC saw an increase in the number of inquiries about the assistance provided.
“A total of 382,255 calls has been received since the beginning of the outbreak, as of July 20, 2020, and most of the calls were to the Bank Rakyat (348,995), followed by SME Corp (9,061), MEDAC (8,023), TEKUN (7,994), Cooperative Commission of Malaysia (4,128), SME Bank (4,069) and the Cooperative Institute of Malaysia (28).
“This surge of calls reflects the positive response of entrepreneurs to the programmes that are initiated by MEDAC to help local entrepreneurs revitalise their business and improve the economy,” he said in a statement today.
Wan Junaidi also assured that MEDAC will continue to be committed in providing entrepreneurial advisory services, such as attending to inquiries, providing information and assistance, including supports to entrepreneurs.
He noted that among other measures are the Special Relief Funds, Economic Stimulus Package (Prihatin), moratorium on deferral of personal loan repayment for members of these cooperatives, deferment of repayment of Revolving Capital Fund (TMP-JPK), and other government loan assistance and incentives.
“The ministry has also established a One Stop Entrepreneur Hotline with the together with 90 other agencies under MEDAC that operates from 8 am to 6 pm,” he added.
