Mechanic staring at possible death sentence after arrest for drug offence

KUCHING, Dec 8: A 33-year-old mechanic faces the possibility of a death sentence after he was caught with a total of 51.36 grammes of ‘syabu’ at a house in Jalan Sungai Apong, on Friday.

State Narcotics Crime Investigation Department chief Superintendent Hasnir Abdul Hamid said the suspect was arrested on December 6, at 10.40am in a garage.

“The suspect was arrested when he was standing on the driver’s side of a vehicle, and after further inspection of the storage compartment under the vehicle passenger seat, police found a translucent plastic package containing a crystallised substance believe to be ‘syabu’.


“Police also found one plastic packet containing 18 small blue plastic packets with a crystallised substance inside believe to be ‘syabu’, including two more transparent plastic packets with the same substance and another nine plastic packets, which was also believed to be ‘syabu’, with a total weight of 51.36 grammes and estimated to be worth RM7,700,” he disclosed in a statement today.

Hasnir also noted the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine during an initial urine test.

He revealed the suspect was arrested under the Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and also investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“The suspect also has a previous record involving drug cases under Section Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he added.

The suspect was remanded for 7 days to facilitate investigation. — DayakDaily
