KUCHING, Oct 20: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has distributed 101 rubbish bins in Padungan, in collaboration with Trienekens, and urged residents and business operators to take greater responsibility for keeping the bins clean and properly maintained.
MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said maintaining a clean city requires shared responsibility, stressing that the public should not rely solely on waste collection services to keep their surroundings hygienic, this morning at the Padungan Ambank car park.
He reminded residents and business operators that each rubbish bin costs several hundred ringgit and should be handled with care to prevent unpleasant odours, maintain hygiene, and prolong its lifespan.
Food and beverage operators, in particular, were urged to maintain high cleanliness standards, as poorly maintained rubbish bins could compromise public hygiene and affect customers’ perception of their premises.
Wee said the programme was not just about providing new bins, but also about fostering greater public awareness, civic responsibility, and good hygiene practices.
“Keeping our city clean requires everyone’s cooperation. The public must play an active role in maintaining cleanliness rather than relying solely on waste collection services,” he said. — DayakDaily
