KUCHING, Nov 11: Kuching City South Council (MBKS) is set to alter its dog licensing policy to an annual renewal system to align with the yearly rabies vaccination protocol.

Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng emphasised the need for this change during an anti-rabies vaccination, licensing, microchipping, and subsidised neutering campaign at MBKS community hall.

Under the current system, the public, as well as pet shops and dog breeders, can obtain a dog license for a three-year period by paying the necessary fees.

Wee pointed out that since rabies vaccinations are administered annually, the council aims to streamline the licensing process and reduce rabies cases by enforcing a yearly renewal policy.

Wee mentioned that MBKS would seek guidance from the Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) before implementing the policy change.

The shift to yearly dog licenses is expected to take effect next year, and Wee urged the public to be prepared for the upcoming adjustments.
