KUCHING, June 18: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) will soon be repainting the iconic hornbill statue at the Kenyalang Interchange.

MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had given the green light for the project.

“During my last meeting with the Premier, I put up this proposal, and the Premier had given his support and approval.

“We have already identified the paint colours. Now we’re thinking whether to get artists or at least professional painters to do the job,” Wee shared during his weekly ShallWeeTalk Facebook live session today.

He said the hornbill statue serves as an icon for Sarawak and would not go unnoticed by tourists travelling from the Kuching International Airport (KIA) to town.

Therefore, he added that it is timely for such a symbolic hornbill statue to get a facelift. — DayakDaily
