KUCHING, June 18: The Sarawak government’s efforts to build a cancer centre in the State is to ensure that Sarawakians will benefit from comprehensive health services locally, said Deputy Premier of Sarawak Dato Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Dr Sim, who is also Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister, added that the cancer centre would be built near the Sarawak Heart Centre in Kota Samarahan.

He elaborated that with the centre, cancer patients no longer have to think about the cost of flight tickets, accommodation, and so on to get treatment in Peninsular Malaysia.

ā€œI understand cancer treatment is costly, which caused many people not to be able to get private treatment despite having insurance,ā€ he said when officiating at his Ministry’s ‘Gawai Raya 2022’ held at a hotel on Friday (July 17).

Dr Sim added that while he wished no one would have use for it as he wanted everyone to be in good health, he assured that should one need to visit it, they would have access to the best facilities, equipment, and services.

On April 17, the Sarawak government offered a loan worth RM1 billion to the Federal government to build a cancer centre in the State. ā€” DayakDaily
