KUCHING, Oct 30: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) will be cordoning off the new murals in Padungan with plants or decorations to minimise obstructed views of the mural.
MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said many murals in Kuching North are often blocked by vehicles or other objects, making taking unobstructed photos of the murals difficult to take.
“In Kuching North, a lot of them are being blocked by cars and all that, like the one near India Street. When you want to take a photo, pedestrians and cars are all captured as well.
“These murals should be cordoned off with plants or decorations so that people can go near to them and take good pictures,” he said.
Wee revealed that Padungan would be seeing its first mural by end of this year and five more will be completed within the next year.
For long-term preservation, he said, the council will be allocating a budget for maintenance especially for artists to touch up the colours once they fade due to time.
“What we will do is that we will allocate budget for interval mural maintenance.
“We will let the artists propose (their expenses in terms of touching up the colours) and we will do maintenance from time to time,” said Wee during his weekly ‘ShallWeeTalk’ Facebook live session yesterday (Oct 29).
Wee was answering a question raised by a netizen who expressed concern about the vandalism of murals in Kuching. — DayakDaily
