KUCHING, Oct 30: Santubong incumbent Dato Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar will not seek reelection in the 15th General Election (GE15).

This was confirmed by Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during a press conference held after the launching of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Women’s election machinery at Penview Convention Centre in Demak here today.

“It is his (Wan Junaidi) own wish. Because he told me he is already 77 (in age) and he wants to do other things but he will (continue) giving us advice.

“He requested to step down but I have yet to make a decision (whether to accept his request).

“We will discuss this later but since he already requested that, then how (sic)?,” he told the press.

Wan Junaidi won the Santubong seat in a straight fight against independent candidate Idris Bohari in the 2004 General Election with a 10,560-vote majority.

He then defended the seat for four terms with the most recent being the 2018 General Election which saw him defeating Mohamad Fidzuan Zaidi of Pakatan Harapan (PH) comfortably with a 19,485-vote majority.

Prior to being elected as Santubong MP, Wan Junaidi was the Batang Lupar MP from 1990 until 2004. ā€” DayakDaily
