The initiative was led by MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, who personally presented the food aid packages to all 50 recipient families.

Speaking during the event, Wee said festive celebrations are a time for unity, gratitude, and togetherness, and stressed the importance of ensuring that assistance reaches those who may need extra support during meaningful occasions such as Gawai Dayak.

“Gawai Dayak is a celebration that brings families and communities together. Through this programme, we hope to ease the burden of the recipients and help them prepare for the festive season with greater peace of mind,” he said in a media release today.

He also expressed appreciation to Everise for sponsoring the food aid packages, commending the company for its generosity and continued commitment to community welfare initiatives.

The programme reflects MBKS’ ongoing efforts to strengthen social support networks and promote community well-being across Kuching South, particularly among lower-income and vulnerable households.

Wee further extended his Gawai Dayak greetings to residents of Sungai Apong Baru and the wider Dayak community, wishing them a joyful and meaningful celebration. — DayakDaily
