KUCHING, Dec 23: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has intensified dengue control measures in areas reporting cases, carrying out regular fogging up to three times a week to prevent the spread of the mosquito-borne disease.

MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the council has been coordinating closely with the health department to monitor dengue cases and ensure timely preventive actions.

“We do not want to cause panic, but we are monitoring the situation closely. Once cases are reported to the Sarawak Health Department, they inform us, and MBKS carries out the fogging,” he said when speaking to reporters at the handover ceremony for the upgraded Petanak Market toilet for OKU and seniors here, today.

He confirmed that the measures, which started last month, have so far kept the situation under control. He emphasised that fogging will continue in affected areas until there are no new cases, saying the council cannot take risks when it comes to public health.

“The fogging is conducted regularly, about three times a week, and we will continue until the area is clear. It is part of our ongoing commitment to protect residents from dengue,” he added.

The mayor also urged the public to remain vigilant, keep their surroundings clean, and eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites to complement the council’s efforts. — DayakDaily
