KUCHING, June 18: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng says the council will only take in constructive ideas on how to improve the life of the people.
He said there are proper channels and procedures to build public facilities and to further beautify landscapes and areas on land vested for a council, adding the council is building the right infrastructure and providing services to the people under their jurisdiction.
“MBKS needs proper planning on every project that is going to be implemented, and it must get the right funding and (have a plan on) how to maintain such facilities later.
“We cannot simply build something as per any request and implement it, and there is always a way to approach the council for the betterment of the people living under its jurisdiction,” he explained.
Wee told reporters this when met at the Run to SAVE Lives 3.0 event organised by the Kuching branch of Malaysia Red Crescent Sarawak (MRCS) at the MBKS compound here today.
Earlier, Wee and Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap joined MRCS chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sr Dr George Chan in flagging off 1,400 participants on 3km and 5km runs.
Wee also said it is not right to point fingers at MBKS on certain issues and publicise them using newspapers and photos as the council has a complaint service.
“I myself have a weekly Facebook Live (session) and people can give me constructive ideas,” he pointed out.
Wee said that the council would continue to provide better facilities for people residing in areas under its jurisdiction as well as city folks to ensure that the rakyat have a healthy lifestyle.
He also said he was happy that the weekly night run on Thursday by a joggers’ club has resumed and the council would do its level best to provide better facilities, including for elders and people with disabilities.
He added the council would continue to keep green spaces for the people, and the council will not come out with any development.
“A healthy city needs healthy people. In a smart city, you need smart people and healthy people. So you can be smart, but if you are not healthy, then you cannot go anywhere,” he said. — DayakDaily
