KUCHING, Aug 26: The soon-to-be-opened Sheraton Kuching Hotel would be a new landmark and modern architectural facade in the heart of the city’s bustling commercial district.
According to the website, the five-star hotel situated along Jalan Padungan is to be opened by September 2023.
Kuching City South Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the significant investment by the Sheraton Kuching Hotel owner under Tan Sri Yee Ming Seng in Kuching is most welcome, which shows their confidence in the increasing vibrancy of the local tourism sector.
“The Sheraton Hotel will offer tourists and business travellers a much-needed additional choice of luxury accommodation in Kuching. I have always believed in the need to see a rejuvenation of the heritage areas, especially the Padungan area.
“MBKS will be undertaking programmes to beautify the Padungan heritage stretch. The opening of this new hotel will further bring impetus in our rejuvenation efforts,” he told DayakDaily when contacted today.
Wee opined that the proximity of the new Sheraton Kuching Hotel would result in increased traffic to the heritage areas while encouraging new businesses.
“We expect an increase in the property values and investment to upgrade the properties in the area.
“I hope the property owners will appreciate the heritage value of the shops, and the upgrading efforts will nevertheless preserve the character and appeal of the neighbourhood,” he said. — DayakDaily
