KUCHING, Feb 18: An earnest ‘Uncle’ from Seng Goon Garden has been cleaning up fallen leaves and picking up trash at the community park for over a decade now.

Though not his responsibility, the man would be at the park between 7am and 9am to do his daily cleaning, as witnessed by many residents.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said he was recently notified of such a person, and he had gone down to the ground to thank the man personally.

“From my Facebook live last weekend, a resident of Taman Seng Goon mentioned that an enthusiastic resident would clean the park near his house, cleaning up fallen leaves and so on between 7 and 9 in the morning.

“And this has been maintained for more than 10 years. So, this morning I went to visit the park. Sure enough, the resident was there,” he shared on social media yesterday.

During the meeting, which was later joined by another resident who was jogging, Wee said they had fruitful discussions on how the council could optimise and improve the park’s facilities and equipment.

“After this, I will bring MBKS officials here to discuss with park users and residents, collect everyone’s opinions, and then formulate plans to improve the park’s environment and facilities,” he added. — DayakDaily
