KUCHING, Aug 19: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) is looking into easing traffic congestion along Jalan Kwong Lee Bank, particularly the stretch in front of the Tanah Putih health clinic, with a road project to expand Lorong Sebor and divert traffic into the feeder road leading to Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim.
Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng hopes the project under the 12th Malaysia Plan can commence sometime this year and is expected to take two years to complete.
“The project is currently in the initial planning stage. We hope to reveal the blueprint in September.
“We note the serious congestion in the area. However, it appears that there is no more space available to expand the main road further to accommodate more vehicles,” he shared during his ShallWeeTalk live session today.
The project is considering utilising the Lorong Sebor access road for traffic diversion to alleviate congestion along the main road.
Wee also acknowledged that the congestion at certain periods of the day posed inconveniences for patients visiting the Tanah Puteh health clinic.
“The Council will do our best to take care of the interests of the wider community,” he said while urging the community to be patient and support the project.
Additionally, he assured that once the project has been finalised, work orders will be issued to the responsible parties undertaking the work fairly and transparently. — DayakDaily
