KUCHING, Oct 15: Kuching City South Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng is once again making a call to work together as cooperation is vital in the fight against illegal dumping.

Wee said he wants the community’s cooperation as the council cannot clean up the city alone and condemns those who dirty the surroundings and spoil the environment.

“I think people with a sense and mind know this act is wrong. But don’t point fingers at the council that we don’t do our job,” he said at Lorong 1 Taman Riverview’s ‘Gotong Royong’ community programme in Bintawa today.

“MBKS wants people under its jurisdiction to have a sense of belonging in the community and to live in a clean environment through working together or ‘gotong royong’.”

At the same time, Wee reminded residents of the illegal planting of fruit trees and needed them to be cleared off as they could block motorists’ views.

He added that there should be no illegal extension to any housing as it could endanger the occupants and their families.

“When something happens, how do we escape? Second, if you seek insurance for any damages, the company will not pay as it is illegal,” he said.

Wee added that it is to educate and remind the people in the community because that is the law.

“MBKS needs citizens to cooperate to work together and make it a better place for everybody,” he said. — DayakDaily
