KUCHING, Sept 7: Featuring drawings, photographs, and written narratives, the “Collaborative Grounds: Collective Memories of Kenyalang Park” exhibition provides a nostalgic look back on Kenyalang Park’s rich history as the first satellite town.
The project was initiated by Associate Professor Eric Chen Hsuan-Cheng and architecture students from Taiwan’s Chung Yuan Christian University, in collaboration with local community members.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng highlighted that the Taiwanese team conducted an in-depth exploration and documentation of the community’s collective memories over the past three weeks.
“Through a series of interviews with community leaders, residents, business vendors, and principals of local schools, they gathered rich oral histories that highlight the unique character and history of Kenyalang Park.
“The results of their research were presented in an exhibition featuring drawings, photographs, and written narratives,” he said in a statement today after visiting the exhibition yesterday (Sept 7).
The exhibition is located at the second floor of Kenyalang Shopping Centre, No.18, Lorong Sim Kheng Hong 2, Kampung Kenyalang Park 2F (above Magnum 4D).
It is open to public every Saturday throughout its month-long run on September 7, 14, 21, 28, and Oct 5.
Wee further commended the students for their dedication and thorough research, emphasising that the project not only showcased their professional skills but also unveiled opportunities for enhancing Kenyalang Park as a lively community that is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He aexpressed enthusiasm for continuing this meaningful collaboration and proposed further exchange programmes between Chung Yuan Christian University and local universities, as well as between MBKS and Taoyuan city government. – DayakDaily
