KUCHING, Aug 25: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) handed over three minor projects including a retaining wall and drainage upgrading project of SMK DPHA Gapor to contractors today.
MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the retaining wall and drainage upgrading project of SMK DPHA Gapor along Lorong Stampin Timur 6 will commence on Sept 1 this year and take four months to complete.
Apart from this drainage project, Wee also handed over Jalan Urat Mata 2A and Jalan Belian of Bintawa drainage upgrading projects to the respective contractors.
During the handover, which was livestreamed through his social media page, Wee urged the contractor to include a disability ramp for students with special needs as a corporate social responsibility (CSR) contribution, which the latter agreed to promptly.
As many are using the entrance at Lorong Stampin Timur 6 to enter SMK DPHA Gapor and the lane is narrow, Wee noticed traffic has been very congested, especially when parents come to pick up their children.
“I noticed that Lorong Stampin Timur 6 is very narrow, and it is very congested when students are going home. When the upgrading work is in process, it will even be worse. So if you can, avoid using this road until the project has been completed,” said Wee.
Following the request by the school authorities to set up another bus stop shelter to cater for the needs of the students, Wee promptly instructed a MBKS councillor to install one as he said the council has several spare units in its possession. — DayakDaily
