KUCHING, March 11: A total of 134 overhead street lamps along Airport Road have been replaced with 250-watt lights to ensure the area is well-lit and improve road safety.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the upgrading of the street lights was carried out following public complaints of the poor lighting along the stretch.

“Works to replace the lights by Sesco began on Feb 20 this year and were completed yesterday (March 10). It was delayed slightly due to the rain.

“All 134 lanterns, previously 150 watts, have been replaced with higher wattage to 250-watt lanterns,” he said during his ShallWeeTalk online session with the community today.

Wee extended his thanks and appreciation to Sesco for addressing the poor lighting problem promptly.

“I think it is important for Airport Road to be well-lit and illuminated because it is the first place where tourists and visitors get their first impression of Sarawak,” he added.

Wee emphasised that MBKS takes public complaints seriously and will try to address and resolve all complaints to the best of their ability.

“Residents are welcomed to file reports of poor lighting in their areas to the Council and we will forward it to Sesco for them to take action and make improvements,” he added. — DayakDaily
