Speaking after receiving the award, Wee said the recognition reflects MBKS’ commitment to ensuring no one is left behind in Kuching’s urban development.

“Ausome Park represents our belief that inclusivity must be at the heart of city planning. Every individual deserves access to safe, welcoming and supportive public spaces. This award encourages us to continue improving facilities for persons with disabilities across Kuching South,” he said.

He added that MBKS would continue expanding its accessibility initiatives to ensure that all residents could enjoy equal opportunities and a better quality of life.

Ausome Park, located within the MBKS jurisdiction, is recognised as one of Kuching’s leading inclusive public spaces, designed to support the needs of children on the autism spectrum as well as persons with disabilities.

The park features sensory play zones, barrier-free access, wheelchair-friendly pathways, quiet areas for emotional regulation, and safety-enhanced play structures.

Ausome Park has received widespread praise from parents, caregivers and community groups, and is increasingly regarded as a model for future autism-friendly public spaces in Kuching. The award further reinforces MBKS’ leadership in promoting inclusive, and compassionate urban development. – DayakDaily
