KUCHING, June 28: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) conducted a ballot draw today to determine 134 vendors for single-size and half-size stalls at the much-anticipated Kuching Food Festival 2022.

Festival organising committee member Lim Kaa Kuan, when addressing the participating vendors, emphasised that MBKS has never turned down any applications over the past 30 years of holding the festival.

“But unfortunately, due to the limited number of single-size stalls (10ft x 20ft) available, this random draw had to be called so that everyone has the opportunity to fairly pick the type of stalls to be allocated to them.

“A total of 134 vendors applied but there are only 64 single-size stalls available and 70 half-size (5ft x 20ft) stalls out of 232 still available,” he said during the balloting session at the MBKS Auditorium.

During the balloting session, about 10 vendors had pulled out and decided to take up a half-size stall.

The Kuching Food Festival taking place from July 29 to Aug 21 this year, themed ‘Kuching’s Best Creative Food and Culture’ will feature 394 food stalls.

Apart from the single and half stalls, there are also 21 double-size stalls and 71 premium stalls.

In addition, a few double-size stalls have been allocated for consulates in Sarawak namely China, Indonesia and Brunei as well as for eight local Chinese associations, and sponsors.

There will also be one stall specially set up for gastronomy, 90 booths for the indoor trade fair and stalls at the amusement and games section.

MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng had on June 25 in his ‘ShallWeeTalk’ live session said that this year’s festival had registered the highest capacity in history compared to the past record of 280 stalls in the 2019 edition. — DayakDaily
