KUCHING, Oct 23: Hawkers operating under the jurisdiction of Kuching South City Council (MBKS) will have their operating licenses immediately withdrawn if they are caught smoking while preparing food for customers.
MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said this was a serious issue as no such behaviour should be seen in any hawker centre or eateries, be it under MBKS jurisdiction or not.
“I think this is common sense, with or without Covid-19. Chefs or employees cooking or preparing food should not be smoking at all.
“Please don’t add extra ‘flavour’ into our fried noodles or fried rice,” he said.
Members of the public are also urged to report such sightings with clear photos to MBKS so that action can be taken against the violators.
As for coffeeshops, Wee said their operating licenses will similarly be revoked, if they are caught and penalised by the Ministry of Health (MOH).
He said this was brought to his attention following a report from a member of a public who witnessed the unsanitary practice at one of the coffeeshops near Stutong . — DayakSaily
