KUCHING, Oct 7: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has expressed keen interest in fostering educational exchanges with Dongyang Mirae University and other universities located within the Guro District of Seoul to expose Kuching’s youth to broader opportunities for higher education in South Korea.
Leading an MBKS delegation to visit the university today, Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng underscored the significance of this collaboration.
“We want the youth of Sarawak to know and have a wider spectrum of educational choices. Through these educational exchanges, we can nurture a pool of future professionals,” he said in a media release today.
Accompanying the MBKS delegation were Malaysian students, including those from Sarawak, who are currently enrolled at the university.
During the visit, Wee was informed that there are 22 Malaysian students, including Sarawakian students, pursuing various courses at Dongyang Mirae University.
Dongyang Mirae University, renowned as an industrial technical institution in Seoul, offers a diverse range of courses, including mechanical engineering, robotics and automation, electrical and electronic engineering, computer science, environmental engineering, and business administration.
Expressing delight to have the opportunity to meet and interact with the Malaysian students, Wee urged them to return to Sarawak after completing their studies.
He also encouraged them to play a pivotal role in promoting their homeland, particularly its culture and tourism, as they effectively serve as ambassadors for Malaysia.
“Life is not a competition with others, but a journey towards becoming the best version of yourself. Embrace challenges as opportunities to develop independence, responsibility, and a thirst for knowledge, and most importantly, striving to become better individuals,” he imparted some valuable advice.
Following the informative session at the university, the MBKS delegation also toured the university’s facilities. ā DayakDaily
