MBKS distributes 150 sets of Gawai gifts to selected villages and churches

KUCHING, May 25: A total of 150 sets of Gawai gifts consisting of financial aid, facemasks, and ‘pansuh’ paste were distributed by Kuching South City Commission (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng to selected villages and churches in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Gawai Dayak celebration which falls on June 1 and 2.

MBKS in a statement today said the 150 recipients are from St Faith Church area, Tabuan Jaya Anglican Church area, Kampung Stampin Baru, Kampung Stampin, Kampung Stutong, Kampung Tabuan Dayak Baruh, Kampung Tabuan Dayak Atas and Kampung Tabuan Jaya Tengah.

MBKS said it has always emphasised maintaining and strengthening the harmonious relationship between the community and the council, adding that the Dayak community under MBKS’ jurisdiction has also been supportive of the council.

Wee said: “I would like to take this opportunity to wish ‘Selamat Ngintu Hari Gawai Dayak, Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai, Lantang Senang Nguan Menua’ to all who will be celebrating this festival.

“I would also like to remind the public to celebrate the festival responsibly.

“Please obey and strictly follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) laid by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) for us to fight the Covid-19 as our fight is not over yet,” he said.

In the meantime, the handover of the Gawai gifts was done during a simple ceremony at the MBKS office lobby with councillors Mulok Saban, Timothy Julius and Rosaline Neging among those present. — DayakDaily
