KUCHING, Aug 22: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) have announced a three-month contract extension for Kuching City Parking Systems Sdn Bhd (KCPS) ahead of the appointment of a new vendor for the development, operation, and management of the smart parking system for Kuching.

According to a statement, the extension, effective Aug 1, 2025, will allow KCPS to continue managing the city’s parking services.

“However, this extension is part of a planned transition of introducing a new smart parking system for the whole of Sarawak, which will take over the current operation by KCPS upon the expiry of the extension.

“The successful incoming vendor will be required to implement a new system throughout Sarawak, featuring a mobile app and enhanced digital infrastructure aimed at improving user convenience and overall service efficiency,” said the statement.

During this interim period, KCPS will continue its current operations without interruption, ensuring that public parking services remain accessible and stable while technical and operational preparations are completed for the new smart parking system.

At present, MBKS and DBKU have yet to implement the smart parking system, and the existing system, currently managed by KCPS, will remain in operation during this period.

“This means that the conventional paper parking coupons will still be used during the transitional period,” it said.

Both councils also expressed their appreciation to the public for their patience during this transitional phase, as well as for their continued support and understanding. — DayakDaily
