KUCHING, Nov 20: Kuching has been recognised as one of the cleanest cities in the ASEAN region.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) was recently bestowed the international-level ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard Award (ACTCS)(2022-2024).

MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the council received the official letter from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) two days ago on Nov 18.

The award ceremony whereby MBKS will be awarded a certificate of appreciation and plaque imprinted with the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Label with three-year validity will be held on a later date, read the letter.

Delighted to have received yet another international award this week other than the Kuching Creative City of Gastronomy title, he extended congratulations to all Kuchingites for it is a joint effort to keep the city clean.

“I wish to share this honour with everyone. Without you all, we won’t be receiving this award. So, let’s work harder to maintain our high standard as a united city and receive more recognition in the future.

“Let the rest of the world know that Sarawak people don’t live on trees and ‘Sarawak Boleh’,” he said during his Facebook live session here today.

ACTCS has several indicators including environmental management, cleanliness, waste management, awareness-building about environmental protection and cleanliness, green spaces, health safety and urban safety and security, and tourism infrastructure and facilities.
