KUCHING, Feb 10: The public have been reminded to play their part by abiding by Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) and working together during the upcoming Chinese New Year (CNY) festival to break the transmission chain in Sarawak.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng believed that the public’s cooperation is important to ensure that the state is Covid-19-free.
“I appeal to the public not to go to crowded places. Keep the SOPs in mind and all the time as they have a responsibility to love their families especially this festive season.
“They have to show some respect to frontliners who have done so much for us.
“We will be able to put a stop to the chain of the coronavirus if we work together,” he told reporters after distributing goods to residents of KMC Flats here in conjunction with CNY today.
Meanwhile, Wee during his speech to KMC Flats’ residents also reminded the Chinese community there to refrain from organising open house and visiting house-to-house during CNY.
A total of 532 families at KMC Flats were given food aid in the form of a packet of rice, a whole chicken and bread for each family sponsored by CCK Sdn Bhd, Tay Motors and Wide Way Food Enterprise Sdn Bhd in conjunction with CNY.
The food aid distribution was a caring society programme organised by MBKS in partnership with the sponsors.
Through the caring society programme, Wee believed that more less fortunate people and families can be assisted while extending love and care to them.
He also disclosed that one of his dreams is to provide care for society especially the underprivileged, towards building a better city for Sarawak.
Among those attending today’s caring society programme were MBKS deputy mayor Hilmy Othman and MBKS councillors. — DayakDaily
