KUCHING, March 16: The domestic travel fair known as Matta Fair Cuti-Cuti Malaysia which was scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur on April 4 and 5 has been postponed.
According to national daily, The Star. quoting Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) president Datuk Tan Kok Liang, the travel fair which was to be held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre is being deferred on the advisory from the federal government not to hold mass gatherings which involved more than 250 people.
“The decision was taken after considering the statement by the Prime Minister on March 13 and the Ministry of Health not to hold events of mass gatherings of more than 250 people due to the situation of the Covid-19 outbreak with daily increase in the number of cases in the country,
“We had to make the right and responsible decision, as the health and well being of the people is the top priority.
“Whilst we have taken the necessary precautionary health measures, we decided to defer the fair so as not to aggravate the situation and hope that Malaysia will recover at the fastest possible time,” Tan disclosed.
Meanwhile, more than 200 travel industry players, including tour operators and travel agents, had been expected to participate in the fair. — DayakDaily
