KUCHING, Oct 20: Sarawak is optimistic in completing the MASwings takeover within the next two months before the launch of its own airline next year.

Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced this during the Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak 2024 dinner at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Kuala Lumpur last night (Oct 19).

“Many people are asking when the MASwings takeover will end, and the new airline company will be launched.

“Inshallah, just pray that we can finish it by the end of the year—in two months.

“Hopefully, in the new year, we will have our own airline,” he said.

Abang Johari further said the new airline, once operational, will facilitate travel for Sarawakian students between Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.

He also believed that the new airline would boost tourism to the State, considering that Sarawak is now home to two UNESCO World Heritage sites—Gunung Mulu National Park and Niah National Park.
