MIRI, April 21: The Sarawak government is expected to enter into a sale and purchase agreement (SPA) to take over MASwings Sdn Bhd (MASwings) in the middle of this year.

According to a TVS report, Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said the State is currently undergoing the inspection process before proceeding with the agreement with the Federal Government and Malaysia Airlines.

“We are all aware that we are about to take over MASwings Airlines, and we are still in the process of checking every aspect, such as financial, legal, and technical.

“When everything is ready where the Sarawak government, the Federal government and Malaysia Airlines approve of the matter, we will enter into a SPA hopefully in the middle of this year,” he said during Aidilfitri Open House at Miri Malay Association (PMM) here yesterday (April 21).

On October 27, 2023, the Sarawak government, through Hornbill Skyways Sdn Bhd, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) to facilitate the acquisition of shares in MASwings.

The MOU follows the initial MOU with the Federal government on July 20, 2023, regarding the takeover of the management of Rural Air Services (RAS) in Sarawak and Sabah. — DayakDaily
