KUCHING, Nov 8: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said a master plan is in the works for housing development in Batu Kawah which will lead to development all the way up to Bau.

He said Bau is going to be another tourist destination which will be linked to Lundu and Sematan.

“Therefore, Batu Kawah will become an important route connecting to Bau so the housing project will be towards that area,” he said when officiating at the Batu Kawah Riverbank Park in Kuching today.

He also added that the Land and Survey Department is currently working on a master plan to link Batu Kawah as a whole; including connecting the developments between Jalan Stephen Yong and Jalan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Wee Boon Ping.

“This will allow Batu Kawah to become another satellite town like Kuching. With better infrastructure, people will invest and property development will take place,” he said.

Abang Johari also said the Batu Kawah Old Town will be connected to Rantau Panjang and foresees that future recreational activities in the area can become another attraction.

“Our development (projects) are taking place everywhere. In other words, when we say it, we deliver it,” he emphasised.

Also present were Local Government and Housing Minister-cum-Batu Kawah incumbent Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang, MPP deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim and the ministry’s permanent secretary Antonio Kahti Galis. – DayakDaily
