KUCHING, Jan 10: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing has called on longhouse residents to be united in fighting against Covid-19.

He believed this is not the time for infighting as to who is the leader of a longhouse.

Masing, who is Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president noted that there were some longhouse residents who were fighting each other to appoint the tuai rumah (village headman) while some longhouses in Sarawak were battling against Covid-19.

“Our killers are at the door steps of the longhouse, shooting at us.

“At the same time, the longhouse residents are fighting each other, who should be the Tuai Rumah!

“Longhouse residents should get together. Fight the enemies as one member of the longhouse,” he said in a statement.

Masing who is also Baleh assemblyman said longhouse residents should prioritise the battle against Covid-19 and set aside differences in the current challenging time to break the chain of the Covid-19 transmission.

He opined that once the war against Covid-19 is won, then longhouse residents can battle it out as to who should be the village headman.

Masing who is also Infrastructure and Ports Development Minister believed that winning the war against Covid-19 is more important than battling for a position for a village headman and that was what loyal villagers should do. — DayakDaily
