Maritime enforcement seize tanker with 42,000 litres of diesel off Miri

An oil tanker was caught carrying 42,000 liters of diesel without valid Form C license.

MIRI, Nov 26: An oil tanker carrying 42,000 liters of diesel worth about RM76,000 was detained by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (Maritim Malaysia) Miri zone yesterday.

Miri Maritime Zone director Captain Md. Fauzi Othman said the ship belonging to a local company was on a voyage to Kuala Baram when the enforcement team who were patrolling under Op Permai saw them at 1.05pm some four nautical miles from the mouth of Kuala Baram River.

Four of the crew members were detained in the operation.

“Our investigation revealed that the ship’s captain has failed to display valid Form C, a license to carry petroleum products in large quantities. The ship was carrying about 42,000 liters of diesel with an estimated worth of RM76,000.


“The ship was operated by three locals and an Indonesian national, aged between 32 and 40-years-old,” Fauzi disclosed in a statement.

The tanker was seized and all its crew was arrested for further investigation under the Petroleum (Safety Measures) Regulations of Petroleum Transport 1985 for expired Form C offence. – DayakDaily
