Marine police seize RM105,000 worth of smuggled diesel in Miri, arrest local driver

MIRI, March 4: Authorities in Sarawak have seized suspected smuggled diesel worth RM105,000 following an operation by the Marine Police Tactical Headquarters (Region 5) in Miri.

The bust occurred at around 4.50pm on Monday (March 3) during Ops Taring Landai, when officers from the Marine Intelligence Unit (URM) intercepted a white Toyota Hilux single-cab pickup truck parked along Jalan Melor, Bekenu.

Miri Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu stated that the vehicle, driven by a 46-year-old local man, was found transporting diesel without proper documentation.

The operation, involving one officer and four personnel, led to the seizure of the vehicle and its cargo under the Supply Control Act 1961.

The suspect and the confiscated diesel have been handed over to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) for further investigation and legal action. — DayakDaily
