State Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, who also serves as the Minister responsible for the Sarawak Day 2025 celebration, said this year’s programme has been curated to be inclusive, with activities aimed at fostering state pride, strengthening unity, and commemorating Sarawak’s historical journey toward self-government since July 22, 1963.

“Sarawak Day is a day for all of us, regardless of race, religion, or background, to unite and celebrate the achievements and history of our state. I call on all Sarawakians to join in and enliven this celebration as a sign of solidarity and love for Sarawak,” Lee said at a press conference held at the Miri Resident’s Office yesterday (July 16).

The press conference was held following the 4th Main Committee Meeting for the Sarawak Day 2025 celebration and attended by around 60 guests including state leaders and media representatives.

Also present were Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Rosey Yunus (Bekenu), Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Dato Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew (Piasau), Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat (Lambir), Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil (Marudi), Sarawak Protocol, Ceremony, and Event Management Unit (UPPAN) director Datu Hamdan Sharbini, and Miri Division Resident Galong Luang.

The Sarawak Day 2025 celebration will run from July 20 to 22, starting with the Sarawak Sales Carnival and Sarawak Talent showcase at Miri City Stadium, organised in collaboration with TV Sarawak (TVS).

On the morning of July 20, the Zumba Ria programme will see over 1,200 participants at the stadium compound. That evening, an Interfaith Thanksgiving Ceremony will be held at Meritz Hotel, followed by an Islamic Thanksgiving Ceremony at Masjid At-Taqwa on July 21.

The peak of the celebration on July 22 will begin with a Unity Walk led by Sarawak’s Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, which is expected to draw more than 5,000 participants.

Later in the afternoon, the Premier will attend a Townhall Session at Imperial Hotel Miri, engaging with over 1,200 students from various educational institutions across the State.

The grand finale of the Sarawak Day 2025 celebration will take place that evening at Miri City Stadium with the official Sarawak Day Assembly, which will be graced by both the Head of State and the Premier, and attended by more than 5,000 guests and visitors.

The assembly will feature cultural performances, fireworks, and rakyat-focused entertainment to conclude the State’s significant commemoration.

Lee emphasised that the celebration not only marks a historical milestone but also strengthens public participation in advancing Sarawak’s vision towards a developed and prosperous future. — DayakDaily
