KUCHING, Aug 1: Representatives from Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Friendship Cities, namely Guro (South Korea), Asuke (Japan), Zhenjiang (China), and Quanzhou (China), paid a courtesy call on Deputy Sarawak Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here on Monday (July 31).
Dr Sim disclosed in a Facebook post that all of the aforementioned cities had established friendship city status with MBKS prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Now, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Sarawak Merdeka, they wished us a happy 60th anniversary without understanding its meaning.
“After a brief historical overview, they suddenly realised Sarawak’s special status and autonomy,” he said.
Dr Sim said that there are numerous opportunities for collaboration between the residents of those cities and Kuching residents.
“I am confident that MBKS will do their best to facilitate additional exchanges between our people and these cities,” he added.
Also present was MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng. — DayakDaily
