KUCHING, May 6: Only 30 per cent of management employees and 50 per cent in operations in private sector companies are allowed in the workplace at any one time from tomorrow until May 17.

This means employees who are able to work from home should not return to the workplace throughout the circuit breaker period.

This is part of the stricter measures announced today by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in activating the circuit breaker to curb the spread of Covid-19 in Sarawak.

SDMC emphasised that the decision on tightening the existing standard operating procedures (SOPs) under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) was made after evaluating the risks and given the current increasing trend of Covid-19 infections.

The stricter standard operating procedures (SOPs) will come into effect tomorrow (May 7) until May 17 and be applicable throughout Sarawak on top of the general SOPs issued on April 26 as well as other restrictions implemented in certain districts such as Sibu, Miri, Bintulu, Betong and Kapit.

Meanwhile, Sarawak reported 391 new Covid-19 cases today, out of which 252 or 64.45 per cent of the cases were detected in Sibu, Bintulu, Miri, Kapit and Kuching.

Sibu topped the list of districts with the highest number of daily infections at 88 cases followed by Bintulu (55), Miri (50), Kapit (33), Kuching (26), Selangau (23), Sri Aman (19), Samarahan and Kanowit (11 each), Sarikei and Mukah (10 each), Pakan (8), Julau (7), Subis and Serian (6 each), Meradong and Tebedu (5 each), Bau (4), Sebauh, Tatau and Song (3 each), Saratok (2) while Betong, Daro and Belaga has one case each.

Sarawak also recorded five Covid-19 fatalities.

The new cases and fatalities raises the State’s tally of positive cases to 33,477 and deaths to 195. — DayakDaily
