Man with Down syndrome among four Covid-19 deaths recorded, Sarawak reports 67 new cases

KUCHING, Dec 10: A 51-year-old man with Down syndrome and diabetes are among the four Covid-19 fatalities recorded in Sarawak today.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, stated that the man, from Kuching, passed away at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) on Dec 9.

On the same day, a 72-year-old diabetic man from Limbang passed away at Lawas Hospital.


Earlier on Dec 8, two fatalities were recorded. A 71-year-old man from Kuching passed away at Lundu Hospital with existing conditions of high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidemia, chronic kidney disease, and heart disease.

The second fatality on that day was a 57-year-old woman from Sibu who passed away at Sibu Hospital. She had no known comorbidities.

Meanwhile, Sarawak recorded 67 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative number of cases in the State to 251,568.

Out of those 67 cases, 17 are in Category 1 (without symptoms), 48 are in Category 2 (with mild symptoms), and Categories 4 (with pneumonia and requires oxygen therapy) and 5 (with pneumonia and requires ventilator support) recorded one case each.

Kuching recorded the most cases at 24 followed by Mukah (8), Limbang (7), and Dalat (6). Miri and Bintulu recorded four cases each; Sibu, Lawas, Bau, Kanowit, and Sarikei recorded two cases each; and Samarahan, Betong, Pusa, and Subis recorded one case each.
