KUCHING, Nov 26: The Magistrate’s Court here fixed Dec 20 for further mention of a case involving a man who had stabbed a friend to death in an altercation.

Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar also ordered that the accused, Ling Thai Long, 26, be further remanded.

No plea was taken and the date for further mention was for the prosecution to submit the chemist report as well as DNA, post-morterm and medical reports.

Ling allegedly stabbed the victim Bong Wei Liang, 21, in front of the victim’s girlfriend house near Jalan Stephen Yong on Nov 15.

Bong was rushed to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH)’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) but died at about 1.12am on Nov 16 due to serious injuries.

According to the brief facts of the case, the accused and the deceased were in a heated argument over a woman who was previously in a relationship with the accused.

Ling had wanted to reconcile with the woman but when she refused, an argument ensued between the two men, which led to a fight.

The deceased allegedly punched the accused which prompted him to stab the deceased on the left rib with a kitchen knife. All three were drunk prior to the incident.

The case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a death sentence upon conviction.
