KUCHING, Jan 16:  A fine of RM2,000, with a default of two months jail, has been imposed by the Magistrates Court on Kirk Hammet Abdul Haris, a 24-year-old man, for causing harm to his pregnant wife.

The incident stemmed from frustration over his pregnant wife’s failure to serve food when he wanted the meal to be on the table and the stress of losing his job.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi issued the sentence after Kirk Hammet pleaded guilty to charges under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read in conjunction with Section 326A of the same code.

The section carries a potential jail term of up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction.

The incident occurred at a residence on Jalan Cahya Damai around 9.30 am on January 10, 2024.

Kirk Hammet physically assaulted his 26-year-old pregnant wife, causing injuries to various parts of her body.

The assault was triggered by the accused’s frustration over wanting to have his meal but his wife failed to prepare the food fast enough for him.

It was also due to the stress he experienced after losing his job four days prior to the assault incident.

Subsequently, the victim filed a police report, leading to Kirk Hammet’s arrest on January 13, 2024.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that the wife had sustained multiple abrasions on her left upper limb, ear pinna, left shoulder, and right hand, as well as soft tissue injuries on her leg.

Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin handled the case, while the accused was unrepresented by legal counsel. — DayakDaily
