Man suspected of shooting son with “bakakok” now on the run

MUKAH, August 4: A man believed to have shot and badly injured his son is on the run.

The suspect, 48, was said to be with his son, 18, in a drinking session earlier this afternoon at their house in Kampung Keranji Madu, Selangau, about one kilometer from the Selangau Police Station.

Mukah District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Jimmy Panyau said policemen who arrived at the scene at 5.30pm after being informed by the public, found the victim in a conscious state.

“The victim suffered injuries on his left shoulder, fingers and right knee. He was conscious when police arrived at the scene,” he said.

He said a homemade shotgun or ‘bakakok’ was found not far from the scene and has since been confiscated as evidence by the police.

“The victim was sent to Selangau Clinic before being referred to Sibu Hospital for further treatment,” Jimmy added.

According to Jimmy, the victim’s father fled after the incident.

“Efforts to locate the suspect are underway and the cause of the shooting is still under investigation,” he added. — DayakDaily
