SIBU, Dec 5: A man was rescued early this morning after being found clinging to his bag to stay afloat in the Rajang River near the Sibu waterfront.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sibu Central Station responded to the emergency at 3.11am and immediately dispatched a team of firefighters to the scene.
The victim reportedly slipped and fell into the river while fishing on the Durin Bridge.
Unable to swim to the riverbank due to strong currents, he used his bag as a flotation device and called out for help as he drifted toward the middle of the river.
Upon arrival, firefighters searched the riverbank and discovered that the victim had floated to the opposite side of the river.
A rescue boat was immediately deployed to reach him.
At 4.23am, rescuers successfully retrieved the man and brought him to safety. He was then handed over to the police for identification and subsequently to paramedics for medical evaluation. — DayakDaily
