Man suffers breathing difficulties, hypothermia following late night fire at Kpg Siol Kandis

KUCHING, Feb 21: A man in his 20s suffered from shortness of breath and hypothermia following a fire that destroyed two houses and damaged one at Kampung Siol Kandis in Petra Jaya today, affecting 17 occupants.

In a report by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), an emergency call was received at 12.32am, and firefighters from the Petra Jaya, Padungan, and Batu Lintang stations were deployed.

Upon arrival, the operations commander reported that the incident involved three houses—two were destroyed while one sustained damage at approximately 10 per cent.

It added that the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit from the Petra Jaya station provided treatment to the male victim.

Once he was conscious and stabilised, he was brought to the Sarawak General Hospital for further treatment. The remaining 16 victims were reported to be safe.

Firefighters managed to put out the fire at 1.01am. After putting out the fire and conducting overhaul works, firefighters ensured that the scene was secured before leaving.
