He was charged with deliberately decapitating a female cat with a meat cleaver without any reasonable cause under Section 428 of the Penal Code, which carries a prison term of up to three years or a fine or both, upon conviction.

He was also charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code for issuing criminal threats to kill his 70-year-old mother.

Jefrie committed both offenses at their residence on Jalan Tanjong Durian, Kampung Keranji, Bau, around 12.40pm on May 15.

Musli sentenced the accused to 18 months in prison for the first charge and three years for the second charge, with both sentences to run concurrently from the date of his arrest on May 15.

According to the case facts, Jefrie decapitated his uncleā€™s cat because he was dissatisfied with his mother, who had urged him to find a job.

He also showed the cat’s severed head to his mother, threatening to kill her in the same manner.

Fearing for her safety, Jefrie’s mother filed a police report for further action and investigation.

It was understood that Jefrie tested positive for drugs during an initial urine screening.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Norshafatihah Nor Azmi while the accused was not represented by a lawyer. ā€” DayakDaily
