Man sentenced to 4 years’ jail, 3 cane strokes for armed robbery

Man pleads not guilty to intimidation, causing hurt to wife.

KUCHING, Sept 4: A man was sentenced to four years in jail and 3 strokes of the cane for robbing a man with a short parang and then hijacking the victim’s Perodua Viva.

Session Court Judge, Marutin Pagan also ordered the jail term to run from the date of arrest on Sept 13, 2017.

The accused, Chia Lee Sheng, 26, was charged with commit robbery on August 23, 2017 at about 3:50am, at the roadside near the gate of Kampung Skuduk, Tapah.


The accused was found guilty of committing an offence punishable under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code. Upon conviction, the accused is subject to punishment of imprisonment of up to fourteen years, and shall also be liable to whipping. Since weapons were used in the commission of the crime, committing such offence shall liable to be whipped, in addition to any other punishment to which he may be liable under any other section of this Code.

According to the facts of the case, the victim told the police that he robbed by five unidentified persons, with one of the robbers pointing a short parang to the complainant’s neck and demanding the victim step out of his car. The robbers then left the scene with the victim’s car.

The accused was caught by police officers from CID, IPD Padawan on Sept 13, 2017, at about 10am. The victim then positively identified the accused through an identification parade based on the features of the accused and also as the victim had come face to face with the accused as the accused was the one who had pointed the short parang to the neck of the victim. — DayakDaily
