KUCHING, April 13: A 41-year-old man has claimed trial to a charge of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy.
Mohamad Nizam Mohamad Sahari pleaded not guilty to the charge framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
Sessions Court Judge Steve Ritikos allowed the accused to be released on a bail of RM15,000 with two local sureties.
Judge Steve Ritikos also fixed May 28 for pre-trial case management of the case.
The accused allegedly sexually assaulted a 15-year-old boy by touching his private parts at a house in Kampung Semerah Padi, at about 5am on March 21, 2021.
Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 carries an imprisonment term not exceeding twenty years and liable to whipping, upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nadratun Naim Mohd Saidi prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented by counsel.
