Man pleads not guilty to possessing stolen electrical meters

MIRI, Sept 6: A 40 year-old man was charged in the Magistrate Court here on Thursday afternoon with eight counts of receiving stolen goods and illegally handling stolen electrical meters belonged to the Sarawak Energy Berhad.

However, the accused, Sim Lei Yen, pleaded not guilty to the charges under Section 411 of the Penal Code which provide up to five years’ jail or a fine or both upon conviction.

Sim is accused of dishonestly retaining 10 units of stolen electrical meters belonging to eight different owners on August 27 and 28.


The accused’s counsel was Ranbir Singh.

Magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa released the accused on a bail of RM500 with two local sureties for every charge and fixed Oct 3 for further mention. — DayakDaily
