MIRI, August 13: A man pleaded guilty before the Miri Magistrates’ Court recently for criminal intimidation against Sesco technicians who were on duty to disconnect power supply to his house at Desa Senadin in April this year.
The disconnection was scheduled as his account was long overdue, despite reminders in the bills issued and through a notice sent to the customer.
In the incident, the man attacked the technicians with a spade as they entered the house compound after introducing themselves and making known the purpose of their visit. The staff on duty managed to evade the attack and immediately lodged a police report.
The man was later detained for investigation and charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, punishable with imprisonment of up to two years or fine or both.
In this case, as it was the accused’s first offence, the Magistrate allowed the defense counsel’s appeal for the accused to be released, but bound with good behavior for one year.
In a press statement, Sesco said it seeks the public’s cooperation to monitor their electricity monthly consumption closely to avoid supply disconnection.
