Man pays the price for drug abuse, sentenced to 24 months in jail

SIBU, Nov 12: A man has been sentenced to 24 months in jail and three strokes of the rotan by the Magistrate’s Court today for drug abuse.

Magistrate Syukri Mokhtar ordered the accused, Steven Sujng Kian Liong, 24, to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on June 9, 2020.

According to the facts of the case, at about 11.30am on June 9, 2020, a police team from the Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) stopped a car parked in the parking lot of Star MegaMall.


Upon inspection, they found three transparent bags containing crystalline substances suspected to be methamphetamine.

The accused was arrested and sent to the police station for further action.

The crystalline substances were sent to the Department of Chemistry Malaysia, Sibu for analysis. Results of the analysis confirmed that they were methamphetamine.

Due to being in possession of a drug which is listed under First Schedule of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, the accused had committed an offence under Section 12(2) of the same Act. ā€” DayakDaily
